UK Visitor Visa From India in 2025

The UK Visitor Visa (Standard Visitor Visa) is a non-immigrant visa category that permits foreign nationals to visit the United Kingdom for short-term tourism, business, family visits, medical treatment, or other permitted activities. Unless you are a British or Irish citizen, or eligible for entry without a visa, you must apply for a UK Visitor Visa before travelling to the UK.

Types of UK Visitor Visas

Standard Visitor Visa

  1. Allows travel to the UK for tourism, business meetings, visiting friends/family, short-term study (up to 30 days), medical treatment, or other permitted activities.
  2. Typically valid for 6 months per visit.
  3. Available to citizens of all countries, including India.
  4. Does not allow work or long-term study.

Marriage Visitor Visa

  1. For individuals intending to get married or form a civil partnership in the UK.
  2. Valid for up to 6 months.
  3. Does not allow residence or switching to other visa categories from within the UK.

Transit Visa

  1. For travelers passing through the UK en route to another destination.
  2. Two types:
    • Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV) – no passport control.
    • Visitor in Transit Visa – required if passing UK border control.

Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visa

  1. For professionals invited to the UK for a short-term paid engagement, such as artists, speakers, lecturers, and sportspeople.
  2. Allows a stay of up to 1 month.
  3. Requires an invitation from a UK-based organization.

Parent of a Child Student Visa

  1. For parents accompanying a child aged 4–11 studying at an independent UK day school.
  2. Stay permitted for the duration of the child’s course.
  3. Does not allow work or public funds.

Long-Term Standard Visitor Visa

(This is the same category but issued for a longer duration.)

  1. Available for 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years.
  2. Allows multiple entries, with a maximum 6-month stay per visit.
  3. Ideal for frequent travelers.

Indians typically apply for the Standard Visitor Visa for tourism, visiting relatives, or leisure travel. This visa does not allow employment, long-term study, or accessing public funds.

Documents Required for UK Visitor Visa

Personal Documents

  1. Valid Passport (with minimum 6-month validity and blank pages).
  2. Recent passport-size photographs as per UKVI standards.
  3. Completed Online Visa Application Form (Gov.UK).
  4. Cover Letter outlining trip purpose, duration, and itinerary.
  5. Travel itinerary including flight booking and planned activities.
  6. Accommodation details (hotel bookings, invitation letter, rental agreement, etc.).

Financial Documents

  1. Last 6 months’ bank statements showing stable financial history.
  2. Income proof (salary slips, bank credits, etc.).
  3. Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the last 3 years.
  4. Evidence of personal savings, fixed deposits, or assets.
  5. If sponsored:
    • Sponsor’s bank statements
    • Employment proof
    • Sponsorship/Invitation letter
    • Proof of relationship with sponsor

Employment Documents

  1. For employees:
    • Employer’s letter mentioning role, tenure, salary, approved leave dates, and company contact details.
  2. For self-employed:
    • Business registration certificate (GST, MSME, etc.).
    • Company financial statements.
  3. For students:
    • Enrollment/Bonafide letter from school/college.
  4. For retirees:
    • Pension statements or retirement proof.

Health and Character Documents

  1. Tuberculosis (TB) test results (mandatory for Indian applicants staying over 6 months).
  2. Travel health insurance (recommended).
  3. Police clearance certificate if requested.

Documents for Children Under 18

  1. Birth certificate.
  2. Notarized Consent Letter from non-traveling parent(s).
  3. Copies of parents’ passports.
  4. Details of guardian if traveling with someone other than parents.
